To celebrate Aerowaves’ 25 years in making, director Enya Belak tackles the past, present and future of one of the largest dance European networks in the documentary 'Aerowaves at 25'.
Aerowaves prides itself on its unique role as a connector between choreographers, dance programmers and dance enthusiasts across Europe. Through the documentary, we also learn about the founders of the platform and activities Aerowaves devised to connect various dance enthusiasts around the globe.
Enya Belak is a filmmaker, choreographer and artist. Her work reaches various artistic practices and disciplines, which intertwine among each other. The body becomes her research focus, reflecting her background in contemporary dance and choreography. After graduating from the Goldsmiths University London with an MA in Directing Fiction films, Enya participated in many film and dance-focused projects. In the last years, Enya has been collaborating with Aerowaves, devising Springback Production, the media and digital initiative of the platform, as well as developing a new branch, Springback Ringside, for filming dance performances in virtual reality.
Aerowaves is a hub for dance discovery in Europe. The organisation identifies the most promising new work by emerging dance artists and then promotes it through cross-border performances. Aerowaves’ network of partners in 33 countries enables these younger choreographers to bring brand new dance to brand new audiences.
