Beauty will be convulsive or not at all.

(André Breton, Nadja)

A nocturnal gathering. A place for celebration. A time to let oneself loose. A field where dreams come true. A shelter from reality. A chance to be someone else. A chance to be your true self.

PARTY!

Revelling to the point of exhaustion. Entering the subconscious. Going through the mirror.

REVEL REVEL takes us on a journey of exploring the freedom of being oneself and of being together; the threads that connect us; the bonds that sustain us. Why is it not enough to remain in one’s own bubble? Because when we dare to get together without restraints, we become larger than ourselves.

But freedom is not easy to grasp and it can elude us. In order to truly expand our belief in the power of togetherness, we need to face freedom. It can be a scary place to look at, a terra incognita. Much to our surprise, it seems that most of the time we prefer to live within limits, to dance within constraints, rather than to take a leap of faith into the unknown. How do we identify the boundaries that have become invisible? What do we need to become aware of them? And how is it different for women (still living in the men’s world)?

The REVEL REVEL gang are five females, five different universes that nevertheless share certain common denominators, parts of history, roads travelled. And a determination to question the nature of their own freedom, intertwined with the freedom of the others, creating the amalgam that results in pure joy. Their revelry is a statement, not a getaway. Their decision to opt for joy in midst of the chaos and tectonic changes our world is going through is gazing at you with the eyes wide open. What do you see as you return its gaze?

Roser López Espinosa’s choreographic work is based on strong physicality, with the great passion for precision, delicacy, acrobatic elements and detail. In her playful artistic imagery, collaboration and teamwork go hand in hand with refined poetics and a touch of humour. After her studies at the MTD in Amsterdam and her training with the former Olympic trainer Jaume Miró, Roser worked with numerous choreographers (including Àngels Margarit, Cesc Gelabert, Pere Faura, Iago Pericot, Katie Duck and Marta Reig Torres) and the filmmaker Isaki Lacuesta. Her choreographic work has received international recognition and prestigious prizes, and is regularly performed around the world (Lowland, November, Hand to hand). In 2017 she created L’estol, a large scale piece for the National Dance Production of Catalonia. In 2019 she premiered Trama, which won the XXII Critics Award for best choreography. She is a guest choreographer with international companies such as Skånes Dansteater, Conny Janssen Danst, MiR Dance Company and Zagreb Dance Company. She collaborates with circus companies Circ Pànic (Catalonia) and Compagnie XY (France). She was a resident artist at the Mercat de les Flors 2018-20 in Barcelona, and is a guest teacher at various international dance centres.
