What story is “exclusively mine”? What do I want to share with you? Which stories are we pulled into? Does every story have its counter-story? What cannot be told at all? How do stories interweave? Who holds the fine threads of narration? Who unknits them? On which thread do we hang for years and years, like spiders? Is it true that world was created only because gods love stories? Which stories irritate us so much that we want to tell them in a completely new way, from the beginning, by different standards and with different outcomes? Does every story have its disaster?
Transfer of sparks. Telling. Laughter. Tears. Buster Keaton deftly swinging in the hurricane, then falling down because his door-step leads into the abyss. Disaster is the inevitable lack of control and the moment of self-confrontation, therefore politically doubly dangerous stunt. Who is capable of loving the disaster? We, the story tellers.
Divna, divna, divna katastrofa (Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful disaster) is an experimental physical theatre show, dealing with the politics of story. Story as a personal confession, story as an artistic expression, story as a myth, and story as a political narrative. Several levels of the same theme are commented by five different performers through five different artistic approaches, from anecdotal through intimate to political and protesting. What is one's own story, how much is it conditioned by context (personal, social, economical...), and how much liberty we can count upon? As an interactive show with elements of improvisation, documentarism and social activism, Beautiful, beautiful... has both fixed parts and the parts which are „open“ and unpredictable, and which include audience. In San Vincenti, we have invited members of Marta group from Pula, who attended Mediterranean Dance Centre workshop, held by the authors of the show just before the 14th Festival edition.
