For the 10th edition of the International Festival of Contemporary Dance in Lausanne linga has been invited to create a new piece, an occasion for the company to continue to explore the contradictions inherent in social situations. One year after La Kitchen, a piece which describes outbursts in human relationships, and few months after mucus and angels, questioning feminity, Speeed (59 minutes precisely) reflects on the cult of speed.
In 59 minutes, linga exposes the fear of loosing time, our frantic chase after competitiveness, the worship of dynamism and youth that insidiously force us to accelerate. Why do we go so fast? Are we looking for strong sensations? Do they help us to feel alive or rather to forget? After having run, have we advanced? It seems that when we want to remember, we slow down, we take our time. When we decide to meet someone else, time does not matter anymore.
Speed (59 minutes precisely) does not take sides for slowness against speed. No binary decisions, no final resolutions but just a questioning.
The company’s style exerts a demanding and physical approach to dance. Its choreographic process has progressively given rise to a vocabulary in tune with political and social issues: exploring through dance social phenomena while questioning the repercussions on the body of social situations. Compagnie Linga has become one of the leading contemporary dance companies in Switzerland and is invited to the most important events on the international scene. Compagnie linga is supported by the Convention de Soutien Conjoint of the City of Pully, Vaud canton and Pro Helvetia, Swiss foundation for culture. With the support of the Loterie Romande, the City of Lausanne, Sandoz Family Foundation, Casino Barrière Montreux Foundation. Compagnie linga is the associated artist to the Octogone Theater of Pully.
