INDISCIPLINE
Athletic Dance Theatre Kataklo was founded in 1996 from the intuition that athletes at the end of their competitive career are able to convey feelings and emotions. The word "kataklo" comes from the ancient Greek and means "I dance folding and twisting myself". Katakló unites and overcomes its two basic concepts: dance and gymnastics athletic training. Location changes, from podium to stage. Audience changes, from plastic chairs to the theatre's velvet. But emotions are the same.
Indiscipline is the first show of Athletic Dance Theatre Kataklo, inspired by sport disciplines and it shows the philosophy with which Katakló interprets the world of sports. It was rehearsed at very unusual spaces, in a warehouse courtyard and deserted streets.
The show took its shape among few bewildered passers-by and parked cars, under the leadership of Giulia Staccioli, a former professional athlete, dancer and finally choreographer and the founder of the Company. Delicacy, strength and emotion are the feelings she conveys to the audience through her performances. The way this happens is almost an alchemy. Choreographies are directly shaped on bodies and on peculiarities of each single dancer and the result is often astonishing. The harmony of the performance underlines the company's strength: first of all Kataklo is a team.
